Local company, Trade Floor, tells us whether laminate or carpet is best

20/08/2015

Trade Floor, based on Oakleaze Road just off Thornbury High Street was started in 2010 by local Dad Jordan Farrell. Today they are a team of 6 fitting laminate flooring and carpet across Bristol...

Jordan tells us where and how it all started:

“I’d known for years that I wanted my own business and I saw a gap for a customer focused flooring company. I decided upon a name, found a shop, suppliers and fitters and quickly grew to what we are now. It hasn’t been – and still isn’t - easy. But I really enjoy what I do and I love that we work with so many people in the Thornbury and Bradley Stoke area where I’ve lived for the last 8 years."

Which flooring is best?

Trade Flooring’s best seller has been laminate flooring but recently this began to change says Jordan: “Laminate flooring is what we were most famous for and definitely our best selling product to date, but during the last 12 months we’ve started to take more and more orders for carpet and vinyl.

Of course there isn’t a ‘one floor suits all’ but here’s my advice on what Flooring will be best for you”:

Laminate

“Laminate flooring is great if you rent your property. It lasts well and it cleans well. It’s also great for families like ours who have very young children who are likely to drop, spill and vomit allsorts on the floor. It’s neutral so you can paint your walls just about any colour and the floor can stay perfectly as it is. The drawback of laminate is the cost, which is typically higher than carpet. Another is the lack of warmth, though this can be improved with a decent rug and some good curtains”.

Carpet

“Carpet is typically cheaper than laminate and most people feel it adds warmth and cosiness to a home. It can make the home slightly more efficient as less heat escapes, however this particular cost saving is marginal. The drawback is that it’s not always the most hygienic, although this can be overcome with an annual carpet clean (which costs on average £30 per room in Bristol).”

What's Next?

"New product ranges and a larger selection. We have been limited by space at our pop-up shop in the Willow Brook Centre, Bradley Stoke however, opening up a showroom has given us the space we needed to add products like luxury vinyl tiles, engineered wood and artificial grass."

Summary

When it comes to flooring think about what’s important to you. Think about how long you will be at your home and how often you like to change the décor. Whatever you decide upon, remember you’re never stuck. Changing the floor probably isn’t as expensive as you think – and a quote from us is always free.
