Events to get involved with around the local area this christmas

14/12/2017

With the winter months fast approaching, it’s time to take advantage of everything the South West has to offer. There are plenty of memorable events set to take place for people of all ages, and you’ll be sure to find something to suit you and your loved ones. Here are some ideas to get you excited about the upcoming Christmas season.

1. Bristol’s Christmas Market

Bristol is renowned for its ability to host one of the UK’s most exciting Christmas markets. Situated in Broadmead, it is easy to get to and, once again, the organisers have arranged plenty of authentic Christmas-themed carts and stalls where you can pick up gifts and treats. Opening night is the 10th November, and this coincides nicely with the switching on of the town's Christmas lights in Cabot Circus.

2. Well’s Reindeer Parade

The Wells Reindeer Parade, organised by the local Rotary Club, is an event that runs every year and is sure to draw in large crowds. The parade itself starts at midday, and the six reindeer, which have travelled from Scotland, march through High Street, Queen Street and then Market Place. Children can get up close and get to meet them once the parade has finished. This year, it will take place on the 3rd December.

3. The Eden Project

The Eden Project offers a memorable day out any time of the year, but at Christmas, they really pull out all the stops. Children and adults get the chance to meet Santa and even go ice skating. There is more planned, but it is usually kept a secret for guests until arrival. The festivities begin this year on the 25th of November and last right up until Christmas Eve.

4. The West Somerset Railway

Throughout December, the West Somerset Railway transforms to become the Santa Express. The journey runs from Bishops Lydeard and takes passengers through the Quantock Hills and along the coastline before returning. On the journey, Santa visits each child and hands out presents, whilst parents get to sit back and enjoy a mince pie and festive drink.

With so much on offer, the South West really is the most magical place in the UK to spend Christmas and presents plenty of opportunities to create fond family memories to last for years to come.
