Bogus Trading Standards Officer

South Gloucestershire Trading Standards would like to remind residents to remain vigilant when dealing with cold callers, whoever they claim to be.

 

Officers have recently received a report that a resident of South Gloucestershire has been visited by a man claiming to be a Trading Standards officer from South Gloucestershire Council. We have confirmed this is untrue.

 

It is suspected the resident visited may have been a victim of rogue traders in the past, with these rogues returning and demanding money. The visitor did show identification but it is unclear what form this took.

 

Officers do carry out unannounced visits to both commercial and private addresses, but will always introduce themselves and show identification.

 

South Gloucestershire Council Trading Standards will never ask for or demand money.

 

The public can verify the identity of any Council employee by contacting South Gloucestershire Council’s contact centre on 01454 868001.
